Hey Exxon, Our Kids Trump Your Profits! No Toxic Toys!

Right now, a Congressional Committee is deciding whether to ban phthalates, a toxic chemical, in kids' toys. Yet Exxon Mobil is aggressively lobbying to defeat the ban. Hundreds of independent, peer-reviewed scientific studies that have been generated since the 1970s link phthalate exposure to serious health effects including reduced testosterone levels, lowered sperm counts, early puberty in girls, and genital defects in baby boys.

Paid Sick Days for All!

True or False: Nearly half of all private sector workers don't have a single paid sick day. A: True. Believe it or not, the U.S. doesn't have any laws that require the private sector to provide paid sick days. The result--too many Americans are forced to go to work sick, to choose between taking care of a sick child or losing a day's pay, or even end up losing their jobs when illness strikes. That's why over 140 other countries have this law.

An Unforgettable Lesson

Ashley Boyd's picture

Inspiration is in short supply these days in Sacramento. But as I, and several of my MomsRising.org colleagues, delivered YOUR stories about healthcare to legislative aides, I saw a rare glimmer of interest and inspiration. The discussion quickly turned to, “How can we do it?” not “Is it important?”
